HOT H-beam and rolling products laser profiler
An in-line laser system for measuring the cross-section geometry of H-beams and wide-flange beams while they are still hot (800–1200 °C), right in the rolling mill. It measures the beam as it passes, takes its temperature to convert the dimensions to the cold state, and gives the roll operator recommendations for setting the rolls.
The system has two independent measuring stations: a roughing station between the stands and a finishing station after the last stand.

MEASURABLE PARAMETERS
- beam height and width
- flange height and thickness on both sides
- web thickness at the centre and near each edge
- asymmetry of the section
- beam temperature, with dimensions converted to the cold state
HOW IT WORKS
- the beam type and rolling queue arrive from the plant system, and the measuring frame moves to the right position for that profile
- water and scale are blown off the beam as it enters the measuring zone
- laser lines are projected onto the profile and cameras capture their shape (light-section method)
- a pyrometer measures the beam temperature
- the software rebuilds the section, compares it with the tolerances and saves the result
- a roll setting recommendation goes to the stand controller only after the operator confirms it

- water-cooled C-frame with upper and lower measuring heads, moving on rails so it can be taken out of the line, even while a beam is passing
